ABOUT ME

Cat Maslaveckas

Midwifery BSc (Hons)

Third Trimester Sonography (MSc)

Postgraduate Cert. in Science Education

Meet Cat, our seasoned midwife with over a decade of experience and busy mum of two, currently caring for families on the hospital delivery suite and doubling as a Specialist Midwife Sonographer for those important third trimester growth scans. Her commitment to providing comprehensive care is evident. Cat’s unique journey also includes a stint as a Secondary School Science teacher, showcasing a diverse skill set that she now applies to her passion for antenatal education.

The driving force behind Cat's decision to initiate evidence-based antenatal classes stems from a profound understanding of new parents' experiences. She's been hearing the raw, unfiltered stories from new parents who feel like they've been handed a Rubik's Cube without the instruction manual. Many parents feel unprepared for the challenges of labour, birth, and the subsequent newborn period, even after those traditional antenatal classes.

Cat's vision is to merge her educational background with her desire to facilitate a positive birthing experience no matter what birth you have. Her aim is to create a practical and relaxed learning environment, one that is inclusive and supportive. Cat acknowledges that there's often too much emphasis on 'normal birth' as Cat believes whatever birth you have is what is 'normal' for you.

To address the gaps in information, Cat endeavours to demystify the intricacies of labour and birth. She believes that by providing parents with a deeper understanding of the real-life changes that can occur during childbirth, they will be better equipped to make informed decisions about their care.

A significant aspect of Cat's mission is to dedicate a substantial portion of her antenatal classes to practical newborn care. She recognises the importance of instilling confidence in parents as they bring their baby home. By imparting practical knowledge and fostering a supportive atmosphere, Cat aims to empower parents, mitigating fears and equipping them to embrace the journey of parenthood with a sense of readiness and assurance.

MY APPROACH

Supported , Empowered,  Informed

I want everyone to have a more positive birth and parenting experience. The classes I create are supportive, fun within a non-judgmental environment. This allows parents to be comfortable to ask the uncomfortable questions. I always say there are no 'stupid' questions, trust me I have heard almost everything. The secret is most people don't know what they are doing with their first baby!

I personally, had two very different births with my two girls, but I felt in confident in my decision making because I knew my options when consenting to my care. Giving my clients a wealth of evidence-based information to make informed decisions gives the power back to the parents. It's vital to be well informed to enable you to make the right decision that is right for your family. Let's demystify the research together.

A large focus in my course is the postnatal period. I provide practical information that helps in the day to day challenges of looking after a newborn, as well as yourselves. Happy parents equates to a happy baby and family dynamic. I want families to succeed from the beginning. This only happens by understanding your newborn and their needs. This in turn helps make the transition of becoming parents more manageable.
